ALOHA!

My name is Samantha DeCorte, I am from the Big Island of Hawaii. My mom’s ohana derives from one of the last known fishing villages in the state, Miloli’i. The Kahumoku and Malama family have built strong hard-working families that today continue to enrich our culture and perpetuate sustainable living by fishing, hunting, and growing their own crops. My dad's ohana derives from North Kohala. My ancestor, Kuamo’o Mookini, Kahuna (priest), built the first temple in the islands in 480 AD. Today is a National Historic Landmark. Because of these contributions, I am deeply rooted in my faith and in my culture.

My husband and I met at the high school age of 16 and 17 years old. We have raised three young men, ages 27, 24, and 19. Faith and service are core values in our family and because of that, I have been an active leader in our church and in our community. I have served women, children, young adults, and families in shelters, and transitional homes, as well as led efforts in community clean-ups, food drives, school supply drives, care packages, and food delivered to our homeless community.

I am running for State Senate of District 22 because there is an urgency for strong leadership on the west side of Oahu.

As a Native Hawaiian, I know the struggle and I represent our convictions, our faith, our families, and our freedoms. I have the grit and determination, and most importantly, the conviction to lead, reclaim territory, and fight for what was lost.

If elected, I will be the first Native Hawaiian Wahine State Senator to represent District 22, Ko ‘Olina, Nānākuli, Mā‘ili, Wai‘anae, Mākaha, and Mākua.

I humbly ask for your vote.
